What I learned

I was up until one in the morning learning more HTML, switching back between SoloLearn and Mimo. One thing I thought that was strange was that mimo didn’t mention aly alt attributes when learning about image links.

To be sort of fair, they do have an “introduction to accessibility” module in HTML, but that begs the question: why not include best practice in accessibility in your code itself? Why have a separate module

Strike one!

Then, when talking to TJ about inputs, which was what I was going to write about here, he told me the problem with “placeholder” attributes, which is the practice that Mimo wanted you to use when writing form fields.

I really want to get back to coding, so if you want to see what the problem is, here is WAI’s form instructions link.

Here’s a snippet of what it says:

While placeholder text provides valuable guidance for many users,
placeholder text is not a replacement for labels. Assistive technologies, such as screen readers, do not treat placeholder text as labels. Moreover, at the time of writing this tutorial, placeholder text is not broadly supported across assistive technologies and not displayed in older web browsers.

Consequences

Such an error in practice on Mimo’s part has left unwilling and unable to continue practicing with them, so I’m going to delete the app from my phone, write to them about the error and request a refund. At least I got 50 percent of Anual, so it was only 40 dollars, but still.

When I get to forms in SoloLearn, hopefully it doesn’t give the same practice. I hate wasting my time.

Practice

Define definition
define term of the definition
this is another definition
this is another term for the definition

I need to work on Definition lists more. I had to use my phone a friend . .

Ooooh one thing I wanted to play with was.

this is deleted text .

this is inserted text.

this text is marked, highlighted
I wish voiceover did those well.

okay here’s how Mimo made me do edit fields:
